Wow. That is all I have to say about this destination beach wedding in Portugal. Amazing. Ok, there's another.
I was totally thrilled to be asked by Jackie & Peter to fly out to The Algarve, Portugal to be the photographer at their destination beach wedding. Whilst I don't advertise the fact that I will photograph destination weddings, if somebody asks me to do so, it is kind of hard to refuse? And I wouldn't have missed theirs for the world :-)
In addition to the wedding day, we flew out to photograph the pre-wedding party held at the bride's family villa the night before the big day. That was amazing in itself (and perhaps another blog post about that another time?!).
What was so incredible is that the bride and groom managed to plan the entire wedding in Portugal from the UK and keep the exact location and details of the wedding a secret from their guests. They were all taken care of regarding hotel reservations, etc so the guests knew that the wedding would take place in The Algarve but that is where it ended. Little did they all know that the wedding was going to take place on a tiny island, in fact a National Park, off the coast of Faro, known as Ilha Deserta (Desert Island). What was also amazing is how the couple, along with Susanah of Algarve Events, managed to plan and coordinate the entire wedding logistics bearing in mind there is one restaurant on the island and nothing else. No electricity except for the solar powered restaurant - even fresh food is brought to the island each day by boat. Not only were the guests to get to the island by boat, but the celebrant, catering, flowers, dj, musicians (including a bongo player), fire dancers. Yes. Fire dancers. Wow. Oh and little ol' me and my trusty assistant ;-) I got to ride on a speed boat.
Yes, it was hot. Thirty six degrees hot. Yes, there was full sun, no shade - potentially a nightmare for a photographer and resulting images. And not to mention the sweaty, hot, sandy, windswept mess I soon became. But at least not sunburned thanks to P20. Yes I was a teeny little afraid of being on the speed boat ( I'm here, but I have to go back again - in the dark :-o ) .... but it was absolutely amazing and so worth it.
Far too many images to cram into one blog post so I will have to write two. Part two (to include the reception setting, speeches, bride and groom portraits at sunset, the first dance and fire dancers and all) will follow in due course. These guys know how to party ;-) Thank you Jackie and Peter for having us come all the way from Cheshire to photograph your beautiful, beautiful wedding day.
Plenty of images to keep you going until Part Two!
